Bill, Marshall of Virginia City and Gold Hill, Nevada was appointed by the County Commissioners and Chamber of Commerce on January 1, 1977, and sworn in by the Sherriff of Storey County in front of the historic Piper’s Opera House with a mission to represent and promote the area.
That honor was also largely due to past precedents and history with activities organized that had drawn tourists and performers by the hundreds, dating back to 1959, when the Virginia City Frontiersman Fast Draw Club was created.
