Bill, Marshall of Virginia City and Gold Hill, Nevada, was appointed by the County Commissioners and Chamber of Commerce on January 1, 1977, and sworn in by the Sheriff of Storey County in front of the historic Piper’s Opera House. His mission was, and still is, to represent and promote the area.
That honor was also connected to past precedents and history with activities organized that drew tourists and performers by the hundreds, dating back to 1959 when the Virginia City Frontiersman Fast Draw Club was created.
